Why Partner With a Professional Colorado DUI Attorney?

A DUI conviction can wreak havoc on a person’s life for years to come. Not only do DUI convictions come with severe consequences and penalties, but they can directly affect a person’s chances of finding employment in certain industries. A DUI conviction can make it hard for people to be approved for student funding or apply for a driver’s license. Many people do not consider these legalities before getting behind the wheel after having a few drinks. When charged with a DUI, it is important to find a reliable Colorado DUI attorney who can help you defend yourself from these potentially life-changing charges.

In Colorado, those convicted of a first offense DUI may receive up to one year in jail, community service and up to $1,000 in fines. They will have their driver’s licenses revoked and suspended for up to nine months as well. If charged with a second offense, the fines increase to $1,500. Their license is suspended for one year and the driver is required to have an ignition interlock device installed in their vehicle. This device requires a clean breath sample before the car will start. A third DUI offense will suspend a driver’s license for two years and also requires the use of an ignition interlock device. A Colorado DUI attorney may be able to help in these cases.

Although drivers have the right to refuse a field sobriety test or Breathalyzer when they are pulled over on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, they may have their license instantly revoked for a period of one to three years, depending on the number of past convictions. Not only that, but law enforcement officers have the right to obtain a warrant that mandates the driver to submit to taking the test. They will then be charged with a DUI if the blood alcohol reading is at 0.08 percent or greater.

People who are facing charges related to a DUI should pair up with a dependable Colorado DUI attorney. A DUI attorney can prove to be an essential part of any DUI defense case.
