Drug Possession

Drug possession sentences in Colorado vary based on a number of different factors. The most common drug crimes in Colorado involve cocaine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy, methamphetamine, and prescription pills.

Possession of Marijuana in Colorado

Possession, by an adult, of one ounce or less of marijuana is no longer a state offense in Colorado (unless it is openly and publicly displayed), but possession of as little as two ounces can carry up to a year in jail and a $1,000 fine, while possession of more than twelve ounces is a drug felony and punishable by up to eighteen months in prison and as much as a $100,000 fine. Possession of Cocaine, Heroin, Meth, and Ecstasy in Colorado

Possession of other drugs, such as cocaine, heroin, methamphetamine and ecstasy, can land you in prison for a first offense. For example, possession of less than an ounce of cocaine is a class four drug felony punishable by up to 12 months in the Colorado Department of Corrections for a first offense, even with no aggravating facts.
