Important Things to Know About DUI Lawyers

Being arrested for DUI and facing a conviction can be one of the most stressful and traumatizing experiences of a person’s life. If you find yourself in this situation, it is important that you interview a number of attorneys to find the one that is the best fit for you and your particular situation. Here are five important things you should find out about DUI lawyers before deciding on which one to hire.

Years of Relevant Experience

First, find out what the attorney’s experience is representing clients in DUI cases. It is important that you work with a lawyer who has experience that is relevant to your particular situation. It is crucial that the lawyer you work with has represented clients arrested for DUI so that they are familiar with all the terms and may even have existing relationships with other lawyers and the judge sitting over your case.

Successful Track Record

It is simply not enough to know that DUI lawyers have experience representing clients in DUI cases. It is also very important that you work with a lawyer who has a good record of accomplishment winning DUI cases as well. If you are talking to an attorney with 20 years of experience with DUI but has never won a case, this might not be as good an option as if you hire another attorney with less experience but more success winning cases similar to yours.

Find Out If You Have a Good Case

Third, what every client wants to know when they meet with an attorney is whether they have a strong case or not. When you are facing serious charges such as a DUI, it is important that you work with DUI lawyers who are going to be straightforward and honest with you about your case to give you the best and most relevant legal advice. An attorney should be able to tell you whether you have a strong case or not as well as help identify what some of your options might be. It might be difficult to see on your own that you have other options available.
