Colorado DUI from Marijuana Is a Very Serious Offense

While it may not be as well-known as alcohol-related driving offenses, facing a marijuana DUI charge is still considered a very serious offense by law enforcement. Driving under the influence of marijuana can affect things like motor coordination, response time, and even cause the driver loss of control in some cases. As a result, those facing a conviction for driving while intoxicated must secure reliable legal representation to ensure the best possible outcome.

Marijuana Can Drastically Alter Your Driving

While consuming marijuana results in different effects than with other types of drugs, it is still a highly dangerous substance when driving. That’s because marijuana can drastically affect the way you perceive the world around you. This is especially important to remember when driving, as this difference in perception can have disastrous results.

For instance, those suffering from marijuana intoxication have a problem with spatial awareness. This is of particular concern when operating a vehicle because a lack of awareness can contribute to things like collisions or even bodily injury in severe cases. Marijuana also causes the users to experience a slowed reaction time, which can be very dangerous when driving.

Legal Consequences of Driving Under the Influence

Harsh fines can be levied for those charged with marijuana DUI. Not only can a driver be held accountable for operating a vehicle under the influence, they can also be charged with things like drug possession, which typically carries very stiff penalties. When illicit drugs are associated with DUI, the punishment may be far more severe than for an alcohol-related offense. Even in states like Colorado where marijuana is legal, and Colorado DUI charge can happen with a driver under the influence of marijuana.

Good Representation Can Make a Difference

Because a marijuana DUI charge involves special circumstances, it takes an attorney experienced in these types of cases to launch a suitable defense. A good attorney is crucial for ensuring the accused receives the best possible outcome to a case. Without appropriate legal representation, those convicted of driving under the influence of marijuana may find themselves mired in legal woes for years to come.
